When I announced my intention to squash Beethoven's symphonic masterpiece into a 5-minute piece for flute choir, my old flute teacher Walfrid Kujala looked appropriately dismayed and said "Oh, dear." Despite this lukewarm encouragement, I plowed on and created this arrangement that uses highlights from the 9th Symphony, including, of course, the "Ode to Joy."
