Pat-a-Carol
For Flute Choir Arranged by Judy Nishimura Piccolo, 3 C Flutes, Alto Flute in G, and Bass Flute Duration: 2:24 Available from ALRY Publications Catalog #FC-292 This was meant to be an overture, intended to get holiday concerts off to a flying start. It not only combines "Pat-a-pan" with "Carol of the Bells," but also throws in liberal doses of Smetana's "The Moldau," and sly quotes from "A Midsummer Night's Dream." The overall effect is rather like "Danse Macabre." And all in less than two-and-a-half minutes! Review British Flute Society -- "Ideal for a Christmas concert, this piece was highly successful on many levels, both as a performance piece and as a learning challenge. Intertwining themes from 'The Moldau' by Smetana with the traditional tune 'Pat-a-pan," there were numerous ensemble challenges for the group. The writing for alto is perfectly placed, with the players reveling in Smetana's rich melody, and the piccolo writing is very idiomatic. An excellent addition to the repertoire..." -- Elisabeth Hobbs Award winner, National Flute Association's Newly Published Music Competition Back to Published Works page. |
REAL LIVE PERFORMANCE! The wonderful Aaron Goldman, Principal Flute of the National Symphony Orchestra, tackles this piece all by himself during the pandemic.
